Tohuwabohu (English blog by Daisy Carter)
Definition: A complete ruckus or school chaos before holidays.
Immune systems are down, the kids seem high on the sugar on the daily and the coffee is running out. Still, no one is exempt from the ruckus of carnival on the last day!
I’m writing to you post Fasnacht (carnival) dressed as a cowboy and covered in glitter which I will be finding in random places for the foreseeable future. That being said, it was a blast. I love opportunities for the community to come together and celebrate. We had different activities in each class. My class were offering face painting. The children came and went as they pleased and managed to organise themselves without any interjection from myself – which meant I could also go and visit the other classes and enjoy their activities! There was a massage parlour, a karaoke room, a bar (6th graders serving fizzy drinks) and even a ghost train.
After the events, we all gathered outside to watch the Böög burn. It’s a burning man that signifies the passing of Winter. Actually, the fasnacht event is used to scare away the Winter and welcome the Spring… Something I can get behind!
A massive well done to all of the children and teachers at Buchrain for putting on such a smashing event! I wish everyone an exciting and restful fasnachtsferien.
